2. Definitions and resources
There is currently no internationally agreed definition of indoor air quality or good indoor air quality. The Observatoire de la qualité de l'air intérieur (OQAI) estimates that :
The air is of acceptable quality if it contains no known pollutants in dangerous concentrations, and if a majority of occupants do not express dissatisfaction or discomfort during periods of occupancy.
This is an interesting consideration, as it places the occupant at the heart of the notion of good indoor air quality, and links it to the notion of comfort. Moreover, it highlights the fact that the state of knowledge is evolving, and that a definition of good indoor air quality today may be different from that of tomorrow.
