4. Design approach for an industrial application

Following our 3I 2 model, we propose the following chronological approach to design with virtual reality techniques:

  • very rigorous specification of the functional I 2 for the application (a long and delicate stage in many cases). Based on the desired functional I 2 , useful LCAs are determined;

  • for each of the LCAs, we search at the cognitive I 2 level, either a priori or in relation to past virtual reality experiences, for the natural sensorimotor schema(s) likely to provide effective immersion and interaction.
