3. Component library
The component library is typically divided into passive and active components. Passive components include guiding, coupling, wavelength multiplexing, polarization control, light distribution, wavelength filtering and phase shifting. Active components typically include modulators for transmitters and photodiodes for receivers and local monitoring.
3.1 Passive components
Passive components are mainly based on the sub-micron core of silica-coated silicon guides with a typical cross-section of 300 nm x 500 nm or 220 nm x 450 nm, depending on the SOI platform used.
