8. Conclusion

The fundamentals of night vision and lighting conditions for night scenes go back a long way. Nevertheless, certain aspects have been the subject of recent studies, and are still the subject of research to better master them, or to analyze their variability and understand the limitations they entail. As we have seen, there are many advantages to exploiting the near-IR bands up to around 2.5 µm, compared with the performance available to our eyes in the Visible range. This work is further enhanced by technological advances in detection devices in the near-IR and IR1 bands, which are reviewed in the article [E 6 571] . Thus, understanding atmospheric luminescence, or night glow, is driving advances in detectors in the 1 to 2.5 µm range.
