6. Glossary
laser ablation; laser ablation
All the physical mechanisms leading to the removal of material after laser irradiation of a material.
laser fluence; laser fluence
Quantity representing energy density (or sometimes power density). It is obtained by dividing laser energy (or laser power) by the total surface area irradiated by the laser beam or laser spot. It is usually expressed in J.cm -2 (W.cm -2 ).
temporal jitter; gigue temporelle
Duration of random fluctuation of a signal. This fluctuation results in a temporal dispersion of the signal emission. In the case of a control signal, this results in random temporal triggering errors over its interval of values.
