4. Applications or implementation
Each type of acquisition system - TLS, ALS and MMS - has its advantages and disadvantages, depending on the desired application. To guide the reader in his choice, a few examples of concrete uses are presented.
4.1 TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanning) applications
As a fixed scanner on a tripod, the TLS offers remarkable density and precision. To obtain a global view of a scene, the scanner must be moved after each scan. Acquisition time is usually just a few minutes per station. Very suitable for indoor environments, it can also be a slow and expensive means of acquisition if the number of stations required is high.
