1. Electronic properties of polymers

A wide variety of conductive polymers are known today: polythiophene, polypyrrole, polyaniline and polyparaphenylene are examples of common conductive polymers. They are made up of a chain of units containing a conjugated π system such as thiophene, pyrrole, aniline or benzene. Table 1 shows some common examples, as well as an example of how complex this type of material can be.
