4.1 Interactions with biological media: nanotoxicity

For several years now, the chemical industry and its technological advances have made available to formulators a multitude of ingredients of varying degrees of purity, and in significant quantities. In just a few years, the range of lipids derived from the refining of oils of various origins has tripled. However, they must be chosen rationally, based on their physicochemical properties and safety (non-toxicity), in order to be used as excipients in the composition of nanomedicines. The list entitled Inactive Ingredients Guide (IIG) drawn up by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) –, indicating materials already tested, their quantity and the route of administration for which they are approved –, is a valuable aid in this choice....
