10.  Wood industries

The manufacture of paper pulp involves separating the wood fibers from each other, while degrading them as little as possible. The wood is initially ground into logs, chips or shavings.

Chipping is also used to prepare firewood from waste and slash that would otherwise be difficult to handle: in this case, the aim is no longer to obtain chips, but centimetric pieces.
