2.1 Manufacture
Particle dispersions of a given size can be produced by fragmentation or condensation.
Fragmentation methods (grinding, micronization) are conventional and effective down to micrometer sizes for dry grinding, or 100 nm for wet grinding in the presence of surfactants. The main drawback of these methods is pollution of the dispersion by grinding additives (surfactants) or by the erosion products of the mechanical parts used .
