
4. Residence time distribution models for real reactors
The literature distinguishes between two types of model: compartment models, which are composed of a combination of ideal reactors, and distributed-parameter models, which take into account a local material balance.
4.1 Cascade mixer model
This model is made up of j perfectly stirred reactors placed in series and of equal volume (figure 1 ). To determine its residence time distribution function, the material balance of the tracer in each entity must be written (table 3 ).
