1. Context
The use of agro-resources for industrial purposes is one of the major challenges of the early 21st century. This is motivated, on the one hand, by the latent depletion of petroleum resources and, on the other, by collective awareness of the need to respect the environment and the resulting changes in French and European regulations. The challenge for the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries is to replace the petroleum derivatives used in the chemical industry with new, renewable, non-toxic and biodegradable raw materials derived from agro-resources. The agroproducts sought must therefore have specific features that are at least equivalent to, or even better than, petrochemical derivatives in terms of functionality, without being dangerous from an environmental point of view.
