6.1 Polyketone synthesis
Shell has synthesized a new polymer by copolymerizing ethylene and carbon monoxide. Although this polymer had been known since the 1950s , it was the development of a catalyst based on palladium and a diphosphine ligand that made it possible to obtain a regular polymer with extremely interesting properties . After a pilot phase, an industrial plant with a capacity of 25,000 t/year was set up in Baton Rouge (USA).
