Here we present the butanediol access process developed by the Kuraray company and industrialized in Channelview (US) by the ARCO company. The process comprises hydroformylation of allyl alcohol followed by hydrogenation to butanediol. This process is yet another example of the possibilities offered by the carbonylation reaction.
