5. Carbonylation of halides
5.1 Malonate synthesis
An alkyl chloroacetate is carbonylated very selectively in excellent yield (98%) to malonate using a cobalt-based catalyst between 60 and 80 ˚C under a pressure of 5 to 25 bar .
