1. Mixing operations
With the exception of gas-gas, solid-solid and solid-gas (fluidized bed) mixtures, mixing operations can be grouped into four main application classes. Each can be characterized by its physical or chemical aspect. Clearly, a given problem will rarely relate to a single characteristic, but rather to a set of characteristics, and it will therefore be advisable to clearly identify the limiting stages of the process (table 1 ).
