4. VPN MPLS

MPLS VPNs (MultiProtocol Label Switching) are exclusively network-based, and can only be operated by backbone operators.

MPLS has the special feature of making the flow of datagrams watertight. A configuration error at the exit gateway of a site belonging to a VPN does not result in the transit of VPN information via another VPN.
