 INTRODUCTION

Javascript is now the language of the Web, both on the server side and on the browser side, whether running on a phone, tablet or computer. This article gives a brief description of the language (in its ECMAScript 2015 version) and its main features, to enable readers with some computer experience to grasp the major characteristics of this programming language. Of course, not everything will be covered (the standard is 566 pages long), but the essentials will be.

The examples in this article are not uniform in tone, they vary in style, sometimes employing features in advance or minor features not necessarily detailed in the text, but which illustrate the range of possibilities offered by ECMAScript 2015.
