The role of the Internet
If business is the driving force behind the automation of corporate processes, workflow techniques are the means to achieve it, and the Internet is the gas pedal: the communication system that enables it to flourish, extending processes far beyond a local network or a single company. Similarly, while workflow benefits from the Internet, the enrichment is reciprocal. Because, unlike current Internet protocols ("stateless" protocols), the Internet workflow protocol provides the means to manage long processes: months, even years. Combined with the necessary security techniques, this protocol provides companies with the means to guarantee the smooth running of business processes and lengthy transactions.
