6. Basic services of a generalist executive
The main services found in a general-purpose executive are, of course, directly linked to the application model used, which mainly consists of a description in the form of parallel cooperating activities. These include services linked to tasks, the active entities of the application, and services linked to cooperative objects: synchronization, communication, mutual exclusion. As time is omnipresent in this type of application, there are also services related to physical time, as well as those linked to memory management for task needs. Finally, we should mention the mechanisms used to handle interruptions and exceptions.
The services and objects presented below are therefore of a generic nature, and we'll look at the choices made in certain products or standards when presenting them in the second part of this article
