ABSTRACT

The search for quality has been extended to every sector including that of information processing. Regarding the rolling out of an IT engineering process, quality can be summarized as meeting the requirements of all concerned partners involved in the project. In order to make contribution to this result, international ISO experts have set up the bases of a normative platform. However, a satisfactory quality level is only to be achieved if every company manages to implement these normative references in order to improve their practises and performances. The evaluation of the quality of a given process, based on normative references, is obtained by assessing how many criteria have successfully been met.

 INTRODUCTION

In the field of information processing, software and, more generally, in everything to do with IT systems, the quest for quality is the concern of everyone involved. However, lack of time, the pace of technological change and constraints of all kinds seem to relegate quality aspirations to the status of unattainable objectives and myths.

However, quality simply boils down to customer satisfaction and, by extension, to meeting the requirements of all the partners involved in an operation or project (users, decision-makers, organizers, buyers, project managers, designers, developers, testers, operators, etc.).

Although intangible, software is no exception to this fundamental principle. In order to contribute to the improvement of software quality, ISO's international experts have agreed on a common basis which constitutes a standards platform.

These standards are the basis on which we build the quality of our project engineering and operational processes. The quality of deliverables (software products and accompanying services) is the subject of [H 4 029] files. Best practices in software lifecycle management are covered in the [H 4 031] file.
