5. Caches and secondary memories

The part of the memory hierarchy between the main memory and the secondary memories is outside the scope of this dossier. There are, however, two types of caches concerning this level of the memory hierarchy that we present here.

5.1 Virtual memory and BLT

Virtual memory consists in considering all available memory (main memory and secondary memories) as a single memory accessible via a virtual or logical address, which is the address used by the processor.
