The edition of free software was made possible by the expansion and vulgarization of computing. Still to date, free software, due to its specificities is at the origin of many legal difficulties and uncertainties. It is within this evolving context that this article tries to address this issue. It starts by presenting free licenses: definition, interests, review of the various free licenses, case of double licenses, etc.). The management of a free project is then studied under its various aspects: advantages and drawbacks, participation or internal project as well as the necessary information in order to carry out a project successfully.

INTRODUCTION
It is common practice to use a variety of software in both our professional and personal environments. Quite often, this use is subject to compliance with more or less restrictive license conditions. The economic stakes are considerable. Since the 1980s, the free software movement has been changing this situation.
In this rapidly-changing context, with the open-source movement on the one hand, and the proliferation of proprietary licenses on the other, the choice of license is becoming increasingly complex and strategic for distribution. This choice will depend on the will of the author or publisher, the holder of the economic rights. Open-source software is characterized by a high degree of permissiveness in its use and distribution.
