6. EAI and databases
Database access is a key element of EAI. While proprietary databases were difficult to access (in the pre-relational world), there are now so many solutions that it should no longer be a problem to access data or write data to any database. Such access is essential to any EAI solution.
6.1 Relational database management systems
Technical gateways to RDBMSs are specialized connectors between the MOM and the RDBMS. The main RDBMSs, such as DB2, Oracle, Sybase and SQL Server, are equipped with EAI gateways. These can be supplied by the RDBMS vendor, such as Oracle Gateway for MQSeries, or by the MOM supplier, or by a specialized vendor such as iWay, an IBI subsidiary.
