6. SER measurement

6.1 Issues

After the design and production phase, comes the validation phase. The problem then arises of measuring the electromagnetic field diffracted by an object in order to deduce its SER. As the latter is calculated from fields at infinity, it is necessary to carry out the measurement at a point where the wavefronts are sufficiently flat.

There are two ways to do this:

  • long-distance measurement ;

  • measurement in a closed room.

In all cases, the measurement is based on a radar that transmits and receives a signal, instrumentation capable of storing and processing the measured quantities, a target positioning system capable of rotating the target...
