4. Conclusion
MPEG-4 is a complex standard. For video coding, it offers two sets of coding tools (Part 2 and Part 10), one offering an object-oriented approach and the other enabling highly efficient bitrate reduction covering a very wide range of applications. For audio coding, the variety of tools on offer also covers a wide range of bitrates and therefore applications for speech or music. The standard's system components are used to adapt MPEG-4-coded data to different transmission or storage media.
The MPEG-4 standard will therefore rapidly become established in many fields: professional multimedia and audio-visual creation and production, radio and television broadcasting, games and digital storage for the general public, and so on.
