3. Scientific aspects: assessing the benefits of haptic devices

  • Research objectives

    The state of the art in psychology, virtual reality and the latest technological advances have led to a growing interest in the use of haptic devices. But, despite the many possible implementations, the benefits are not guaranteed. In the case of learning to write, our aim is not simply to improve the graphic quality of a trained stroke, but rather to provide haptic information with the aim of influencing learning and, thus, sustainably improving performance in this activity. To achieve this goal and evaluate the contribution of haptic devices, a series of technological, ergonomic and scientific challenges had to be overcome in order to create an interface enabling haptic guidance and reliable recording of real-time measurements.
