2.1 International standards bodies
Three global entities are involved in telecommunications standardization:
ITU (International Telecommunication Union);
ISO (World Organization for Standardization), for mechanical aspects;
IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) for standards relating to overvoltages and conductor insulation.
