2.1 International standards bodies

  • Three global entities are involved in telecommunications standardization:

  • ITU (International Telecommunication Union);

  • ISO (World Organization for Standardization), for mechanical aspects;

  • IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) for standards relating to overvoltages and conductor insulation.
