6. Optoelectronics-microwave
Microwave optoelectronics and photonics have reached levels of maturity that make them indispensable for a wide range of applications. Based on the 5 orders of magnitude difference between GHz and hundreds of THz (200 THz = wavelength of 1.5 µm), optoelectronic-microwave technologies are the only ones capable of realizing microwave delay functions.
Given the availability of optoelectronic components operating at very high frequencies (> 20 GHz), it is now possible to envisage microwave signal processing architectures covering the following functions: antenna control architectures, delay lines, microwave signal filtering functions, spectral analysis.
