2. Ceramic capacitors

A possible definition of a ceramic capacitor could be: a capacitor in which the dielectric is a sintered ceramic material, i.e. densified by high-temperature heat treatment.

Ceramics are inorganic, non-metallic materials that have been processed using a special technology known as ceramic technology: the material is initially in the form of fine powders, micron or submicron in size, which are combined to form an object. It is then subjected to a high-temperature thermal cycle (firing or sintering). The resulting object is called "sintered", and its microstructure, which has evolved during firing, is a compact assembly of grains separated by grain boundaries.
