10. Conclusion

The advantages and specific features of magneto-optics in magnetometry and microscopy were first highlighted with a view to testing components and justifying the most common applications in telecommunications, information storage, imaging and sensors. But magneto-optical effects have also been exploited for other applications, such as rotation sensors using the Faraday effect in ferrimagnetic garnets, polarization state control systems based on two fiber-optic Faraday rotators, guided optics switches, bistable optical switches, optical reflectometers, or laser gyroscopes using magneto-optical mirrors.
