1. Active filter technologies
The design methods and schematics of active filters are highly dependent on the technologies used in their final realization. That's why we present them first.
Three types of technology are used in practice.
1.1 Active filters with discrete components
They are assembled on printed circuit boards or surface-mounted devices (SMD), for laboratory production or low-volume runs. The components used are :
metal-film resistors, which can be of very high quality, precise and stable over a wide range of values;
capacitors of sufficient quality for the filter's operating frequency, but with standard values and tolerances (10% and series E12, for example) to keep...
