1. Busbar protection

Most of the time, a fault on a busbar is very hard on the network (high short-circuit current and large number of structures to be taken out of service to eliminate the fault). It must therefore be eliminated quickly. Without specific protection, such a fault is eliminated by the distance protection of adjacent substations within a 2nd zone time (250 to 600 ms) in the most favorable case (see [D 4 804] ).

The role of busbar protection is to improve the situation by eliminating any type of fault occurring in the busbar area as quickly and selectively as possible....
