A foundation is that part of a structure which is in direct contact with the ground on which it sits, and whose function is to transmit to the ground the weight and various overloads applied to the superstructure, known as stresses.

A foundation can be a single block (figure 1 a ) or a multipod foundation (figure 1 b ). The type of foundation depends on the type of tower. A distinction can be made between :
