2. Selection criteria

Foundations are designed to ensure the stability of the structure by anchoring it in the ground, whatever the nature of the latter and the value of the applied stresses. The loads correspond to the forces resulting from the load descriptions, which are increased by a weighting coefficient. They are the basic data for any foundation design. They enable the type of foundation to be defined geometrically and mechanically (figure 7 ).
