3. Surge arresters for other systems

3.1 Description

  • Surge protectors for signalling and telecommunication networks

    They are described in standard NF EN 61643-21. Protectors are available with 2, 3, 4 or 5 terminals, or even more (figure 14 ). The most common have 3 terminals (parallel arrester) or 5 terminals (series arrester). It should be noted that the term data network surge arrester is often used to describe signaling network surge arresters, or low current surge arresters (as opposed to energy surge arresters, which are referred to as high current).
