With over 30 years' experience in metal-encapsulated equipment, it was tempting to use some of the solutions that have been developed to reduce the footprint of air-insulated substations.

  • Air-insulated "compact" substations have metal-enclosed circuit breakers, line disconnectors and earthing switches, which are connected to the overhead lines or busbars via SF 6 /air bushings (figure 21 ).
