4. Surge arrester diagnostics

4.1 Scope of application

The average age of silicon carbide arresters is now well over 30 years, and they are gradually being phased out in favor of zinc oxide arresters. The improved protection provided by zinc-oxide arresters has also accelerated their replacement.

As a result, the problem of surge arrester diagnostics now concerns only zinc oxide arresters.
