6. The generator and the environment

Pollution in all its forms has become a major concern because of its impact on health. The two forms of pollution associated with the operation of a generating set - pollution caused by the release of gaseous effluents into the atmosphere, and noise - are subject to regulations that must be taken into account when choosing and installing a generating set.

6.1 Pollutant emissions in exhaust gases

The effluents found in diesel engine exhaust gases are as follows:

  • oxides of nitrogen or NO x , the content of which is expressed as NO 2 ;
