7. Conclusion

Hydropower remains the most ecological, low-carbon and local form of energy production. While investment is high, the equipment has a long lifespan, and income can be substantial.

Small-scale hydropower has its place, and the development of innovative technologies means that low-head structures can be made profitable, and old mills can be reused. It also makes it possible to rehabilitate old equipment.

Small hydroelectric power plants will make a major contribution to achieving the COP 21 targets without causing major visual pollution or producing waste.
