ABSTRACT
This article presents the communication principles applicable to electricity metering. After having recalled general communication protocols, it presents the communications applicable in the field of metering for various types of media and network topologies. The normative bodies in the field of electrical metering are then listed. This article concludes with the future of data exchange technologies notably with the machine-to-machine (M2M) systems in deployments of Telecom GPRS networks.
