9. Conclusion

The aim of this dossier was to present the specialized field of electromagnetic transients in power systems. The presentation focused on modeling and behavior analysis. The introduction was followed by the main principles of modeling and the classification of phenomena. Transient analysis is complex and requires the use of numerical tools.

The paper also presented typical and demonstrative cases of study, starting with slow-edge overvoltages, moving on to temporary overvoltages and completing with lightning transients. An additional example presented the application of electromagnetic transient simulation methods to electromechanical transient problems. These examples served to illustrate the problems, while referring the reader to application guides and specialized standards.
