1. Properties of insulating glazes

The qualities of an enamel are determined above all by the conditions under which it is used, i.e. on the enamelled wire. These qualities must essentially take into account :

  • implementation requirements ;

  • service constraints.

Conductor dimensions, processing conditions, winding method (slow, fast, on automatic machine), impregnation treatment, maximum operating temperatures and ambient environment are all factors to be taken into account when selecting the enamel.

There are two main uses for enamels:

  • on the one hand, electrotechnical manufacturing (industrial frequencies and direct current);

  • and electronics.
