 INTRODUCTION

Update of articles D 495 and D 496 by Jean-François HEUILLARD (Alsthom Atlantique)

This series of three articles deals with the design of high-power alternators. The first part [D 3 550] presents specifications and general sizing principles. The second part [D 3 351] puts these concepts into practice, presenting the limiting constraints for sizing a machine. The third part completes the concepts covered in the first two parts, dealing with losses in the machine: iron, mechanical, Joule, additional, and their evacuation. Finally, the optimization of the machine is addressed, through efficiencies and the maximization of extracted power.
