4. Changes in power line insulation

Insulators made of composite materials have developed mainly in two segments: compact lines (figure 13 ) and lines located in areas of high environmental pollution, for which leakage current limitation on the insulator surface is ensured by a hydrophobic silicone coating. While the first area of application is still undoubtedly the preferred sector for composite materials, their systematic use in highly polluted areas is now being called into question. This is a direct consequence of the incidents, risks, difficulties of working under voltage, line inspection and various reliability problems encountered with this technology over the past decade.
