3. Graphic symbols for use on equipment
The use of standardized symbols to "mark" electrical and electronic equipment improves the conditions of use of the products concerned, and consequently promotes their sale. Both manufacturers and users benefit directly from the use of these symbols which, unlike schematic symbols, are of interest not only to specialists (manufacturers, who implement the symbol, or users in a specialized field such as medical imaging) but also to the general public (such as household appliances).
The "marking" of equipment not only identifies the equipment (e.g. control device), but also indicates operating states (e.g. on), designates connections (e.g. terminal), gives instructions on packaging (e.g. identification of contents), provides guidelines for operation (e.g. restrictions on use), and so on.
