4. Documentation structure, document and data management

The identification of documents relating to various types of equipment, or "objects", is often based on the same information techniques as those applied to locating or identifying such equipment, so these two subjects have been grouped together under the same heading.

Definition: a document is the association of a set of information and the corresponding data carrier; the whole can be structured for human perception and managed and routed as such between users and systems, with the implementation of a structure to govern the complexity of systems.
