1. Dielectric polarization
Because of the large number of symbols used, and the fact that certain physical quantities are assigned a specific letter by standardization, we may use the same symbol for two different quantities in two different paragraphs. In no case should this result in ambiguity.
1.1 Definitions
The following definitions can be adopted:
dielectric: substance whose fundamental electromagnetic property is that it can be polarized by an electric field;
insulator: a substance with sufficiently low electrical conductivity to be used to separate conductive parts at different potentials.
