1.1 Constitution
The stator of a DC machine consists of :

mechanical role because it forms the machine's outer envelope, supports the poles and transmits reaction forces to the frame via mounting brackets or coupling flanges;
magnetic role because it carries the induction lines corresponding to the main flux and the auxiliary flux for switching assistance;
