5.1 Standards and testing
For each application of insulating materials and components, national and international standards have been drawn up which take particular account of their constraints of use, and concern, in addition to electrical insulation characteristics, other functional parameters linked to the behavior of these objects in their environment. The references and titles of the most significant standards are listed at the end of this document.
Because of the many parameters that can play a role in the flow of current, both in the core and on the surface of an insulator, it is important to specify the conditions under which conductivity or resistivity values have been measured.
